Book Review: A Man Called Ove

Warning: this book will make you cry!

If you’re looking for a book with universal appeal, this is it. I can’t think of anyone who wouldn’t enjoy reading it. (Gift alert!) At first glance, it looks like a sleeper; you’ll think it’s just another story about a grumpy old man but Fredrik Backman has a talent for writing quirky characters. Ove is one of those characters who, in real life, we’d try to avoid. From the outside he appears to be beyond saving but all it took was a community who refused to accept his ways. How many people do you know who lives in anger and strives to make life miserable for everyone around them? It really makes you look at people in a completely different way. Everyone has a story. I don’t normally read this type of thing but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
